BETWIXT and between
No cover to show yet. This book is scheduled to be published in the fall from Little Brown. If you have been watching HEROES on TV, the opening of this book will strike a familiar chord. Ondine, Morgan, and Nix all seem to possess some special ability or power. For Nix, it is the ability to know when someone is near death. Nix sees a burning halo around those folks and it keeps him from staying in one place for too long. Ondine can make art come to like, and Morgan is more than a little worried about her apparent sleepwalking, especially when she awakens with blood under her fingernails one morning. The lives of these three teens will collide in a ceremony out in the middle of nowhere. They are all fay, not quite human, and share a common destiny.

The story certainly breaks new ground and will be popular I suspect with those kids who enjoy books such as TANTALIZE (though there are no vampires here) and BLOOD AND CHOCOLATE (nope, no werewolves either). The cover is fascinating as well.

Edited to add:

The lovely Victoria Stapleton sent me the cover jpeg so you can see how amazing it is.

I think Tithe and Valiant, both by Holly Black, do it better.

Holly Black
I think the Black books, which I love, are different. BETWIXT is darker and the "creatures" of the fay are not at all like those in TITHE and VALIANT.
