I am trying this summer to post links to research that supports best practices. Here is a study about high poverty schools and the important role of the school library and the school librarian:

When my colleagues and I spoke to principals last week, we were surprised to see that many had never heard of the Lance research. It is dismaying to us, of course, but we will continue to find venues to share this information far and wide. A school librarian is not simply the caretaker of the books. She or he is an essential component of the reading culture and community within the school.
