ah home!

Finally back from a terrific week in San Diego. Plane time=Reading time as you know. I finished reading CONFESSIONS OF A CLOSET CATHOLIC and think it is a good choice for middle grade girls, especially those who liked ARE YOU THERE GOD? IT'S ME, MARGARET by Judy Blume as this book also deals with some similar issues such as religion and dealing with family relationships.

I read cover to cover I WAS A NON-BLONDE CHEERLEADER as well. The flight attendant thought the cover and title were intriguing, mistaking this for an adult novel I am certain. I did nothing to correct this and gave her the ordering info. The book was a quick read that absorbed me totally. It is a fish-out-of-water story, a coming of age tale, combined with a healthy dose of romance, sibling annoyance, and don't try to pigeon hole me. Sounds interesting, I hope. I enjoyed the story immensely and will nominate it for Quick Picks later this week.

BORIS by Cynthia Rylant is my latest favorite. It is a novel in verse about a new cat in the house named Boris. It is slim and powerful and full of terrific language. In short, an English teacher's dream (and I am never too far away from my roots as a former middle school English teacher).
