Reading Allowed and Aloud

I was astonished to see an old piece I wrote for VOICES FROM THE MIDDLE making the rounds last week. The topic was and is one of my favroite topics: reading aloud. I have written chapters for two books and included it in my own books over the years. Somehow, I never tire of talking and writing about it. All too often, though, I know reading aloud is not a part of daily classroom routine. Questions arise as to the educational value of such as practice, particularly with older students. And so, I post the link here in hopes it will help you make the case (should you need to do so) that reading aloud needs to be part of the classroom each and every day.
