So now we are concerned with the rush to implement CCSS? It seems short-sighted that there was not more planning about how (and, or whether) to implement CCSS in classrooms. The biggest problem was that CCSS was foisted upon teachers (top down, trickle down, whatever) with little time to consider how the new standards might:
- be similar (or even identical) to curriculum already in place
- be addressed by current best practices instead of having to reinvent the wheel
- not be developmentally appropriate for the target audience
The good news is that I am sitting in sessions at the YALSA Lit Symposium in St. Louis for the next few days and we are talking about social media, authors, dystopias, and BOOKS!
