Set in a grim Los Angeles of the future, LEGEND by Marie Lu (Putnam 2011) pits two teens against one another. June, the favored child of the Republic is the only person ever to obtain a perfect score on hr Trial. When her brother is murdered ostensibly by the notorious criminal Day, June seeks revenge. What she discovers is that Day is more than he has been painted to be by the republic. When June learns the truth, she must find a way to free Day from his captors and reveal the truth about her beloved Republic. Kids who loved HUNGER GAMES and other dystopian novels will find Lu's novel interesting reading. <623>
