heading off to ALA

By this time next week, we will all know who won the big awards for children's books. I am heading off tomorrow to Boston for the ALA Midwinter conference. I so adore going to the press conference when they announce Newbery, Printz, etc. It is how I imagine the Academy Awards must feel to actors. Tension, buzz, cheers--it's all there.

Before I go, let me do a quick update on reading. I have managed just two books this week. Paul Janeczko's WORLDS AFIRE, a novel in verse about a deadly fire at a circus in 1944 was slim but haunting. THE LOVESICK SALESMAN was a funny romp through the world of fairy tales gone awry, a prequel to an earlier book.

Packing layers of warmth for the trip. If I do not freeze, I will post upon my return.
