September is unhappy. Her father has gone off to fight in a war and her mother is literally up to her elbows in grease as she works on engines and such. So, when the Green Wind appears and invites her on an adventure, September accepts despite her knowledge of how stories like this end. What an adventure it will be, too. September enters Fairyland, befriends a Wyvern, meets the evil Marquess, and must ultimately rescue her new friends by means of a dangerous quest. THE GIRL WHO CIRCUMNAVIGATED FAIRYLAND IN A SHIP OF HER OWN MAKING by Cathrynne Valente (Feiwel and Friends 2011) will entrance and enchant a wide range of readers. While reminiscent of Baum, Grimm, and even F Scott Fitzgerald, this story is unique in its telling. Perfect for reading aloud a chapter a day; wonderful for demonstrating the art of storytelling. Simply bewitching. <278>
