  • Mood:

leaving Alaska

Tomorrow we leave the glorious frontier of Alaska behind and head back to hot and humid Texas. Tonight I finished reading ALL OF THE ABOVE by Shelley Pearsall. The story with multiple narrators tells of a determined group of students who build a tetrahedron larger than any that had been built before. Mr. Collins, the math teacher, conceives of the project in a moment of desperation. Some of the students in the "math club" are there due to detention and some stay because it is a place to go where they can be safe for a time. As the story shifts from person to person, readers follow the construction and destruction and reconstruction of the tetrahedron. Reluctant readers will appreciate the short chapters and the determination of those involved to complete this feat.
