some final picture books for this week

From the author who brought us PRESS HERE comes THE BOOK WITH A HOLE (Tate 2011) by Herve Tullet. The book does indeed have a hole in it. Turn the pages and see what the reader is expected to do to fill the hole that now appears on each double page spread. While I can hear some librarians moan about how this book will bear up in circulation (it won't, but get it for storytelling and for teachers to use, please. get several copies), it is inventive and demonstrates how books continue to change and evolve and demand more of the reader. <211>

Marilyn Singer follows up her incredible MIRROR,MIRROR with A FULL MOON IS RISING (Lee and Low 2011). Poems about the moon are, of course, the focus here. Moon over a Sukkot celebration, a lunar eclipse in Mali, and a moon festival from Hong Kong demonstrate the universality of the moon as it lights up our nighttime sky. <212>
