A Monster Calls

Thank you so much lovely ladies of Candlewick (Jenny, Sharon) for sending me A MONSTER CALLS. Patrick Ness took an idea from the late Siobhan Dowd and made it his own in this book about life and death and hope and loss and monsters and bullies and so much more. Trying to tell some of the story will be nigh onto impossible. One needs to read this and experience the language and the incredible illustrations by Jim Kay as well. If you do not know Ness from the Chaos Walking series already, please make sure you correct that after reading A MONSTER CALLS (Candlewick, May 2011). I know this is a book I will read again and again. It spoke to my heart and to my very soul. I imagine it will speak to our kids as well. Think of it as a very dark CHARLOTTE'S WEB, a children's book that becomes an adult book depending on the age of the person reading the text.

WARNING, SPOILER ALERT! I am including here, my thoughts as I read the book using DRAGON DICTATION as an experiment of sort. I think this app has uses in the classroom and wanted to demonstrate how it could work as one was reading a book without interrupting the flow of the reading. So, do not click on this file unless you have read the book already.
