STIR IT UP by Ramin Ganeshram (Scholastic, August 2011) is a tasty book not only for the recipes but for the story as well. Anjali longs to be the next star on The Food Network. She has been working in her family's restaurant and seems to have a gift for food preparation and for concocting new recipes. She is thrilled when given the chance to participate in a contest to select the new teen star for the Food Network. However, tryouts are the same day as the admissions test for Bed Stuy High School. Anjanli decides to go against her parents' wishes and try to reach for her own dreams. <186>
Team this one with Joan Bauer's CLOSE TO FAMOUS and perhaps to HOT LUNCH and some other foodie books but do no relegate any of these books to such a simple category either.
