waiting, waiting, waiting
Turns out that waiting for more than an hour to see the eye doctor gave me just enough time to finish my reading of EMILY THE STRANGE, DARK TIMES (Harper 2011). I love these novels about the darkly different Emily and her interesting adventures. In DARK TIMES, Emily must travel back in time to obtain some of the black liquid that powers her unusual inventions including the Time Out Machine. In the past, she meets her Aunt Lily and saves the lives of countless people infected by a plague. Of course, there are the requisite villains and turncoats who try to thwart Emily's efforts. But Emily takes it all in stride. The doodles and sketches and inserts within the text and marginalia make this book an interesting combination of traditional narrative and illustrated text, rather like DOODLEBUG by Karen Romano Young. <128>
