Picture Book Weekend

Here are just a few new picture books to whet your appetite while I am teaching my class today.

I LOVE BIRTHDAYS by Anna Walker (Simon and Schuster 2011) is a simple book told in rhyme about how much fun birthdays can be. <22>

BIG BUNNY By Betseygail Rand (Tricycle Press 2011) is the story of a baby bunny that grows so big, he is sort of a hazard when it comes to Easter baskets and Easter eggs. However, being big CAN be a bonus and the other rabbits figure out a way to use the size of Big Bunny to their advantage. <23>

HAPPY ENDINGS by Robin Pulver Holiday House 2011) is subtitled, A STORY ABOUT SUFFIXES. In Mr. Wright's room, the students are not terribly excited about studying suffixes until the suffixes disappear. Pulver has several books that provide teachable moments about language and its use including PUNCTUATION TAKES A VACATION. <24>

SHADOW by Suzy Lee (Chronicle Books 2010) is an amazing textless book about a girl creating scenes using shadows of everyday objects which transform into a visual feast. <25>
