SpeakLoudly and some other stuff

Requests for the SpeakLoudly buttons continue to arrive from all over the US. I did give out quite a few at the YALSA Lit Symposium in Albuquerque this past weekend. We also managed to give out 100 at the department conference this weekend as well. Of course, that might have something to do with Ellen Hopkins speaking at YALSA and Laurie Halse Anderson speaking at our conference here in Texas.

On another note, here is the sole book I managed to find time to read today amidst meetings and more meetings and grading and correspondence.

I love these Little Lit books and they are being reissued so that a new generation of young readers can enjoy the "Toon" books. BENNY AND PENNY IN LET'S PRETEND centers on two siblings. You can see from the cover that the conflict is between Benny and his younger sister Penny. Benny does not want to let her play pirate with him. Reading these books is akin to watching the cartoon unfold: action, while only intimated by the illustrations, is present nonetheless. To me they have an old fashioned sort of feeling to them. I have a stack of other titles in the imprint to read next time I am up at the office. <492>

Be sure to find me in Orlando or visit the Penguin booth to get your SpeakLoudly button!
