picture book Monday

I open my weekly take on new picture books with a shout out to one half of the newlyweds. My granddaughter, Cali, celebrates her 25th birthday today. As a child she loved the book MOUSE PAINT by Ellen Stoll Walsh. Imagine my delight when I saw this in a box today:

The mice are back in BALANCING ACT by Ellen Stoll Walsh (Beach Lane 2010). Two mice balance on a teeter-totter they have constructed using a twig set on top of a stone. More and more animals come along and get in on the balancing act with predictable results. <471>

Here is the collection of the lovable but stubborn animals from Farmer Brown's farm in A BARNYARD COLLECTION: CLICK CLACK MOO AND MORE by Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin (Atheneum 2010). I love duck and cow and the other animals from these stories. Kids do as well. Here are all of the stories in one book. <472>

Mem Fox and illustrator Jan Thomas collaborate to bring readers LET'S COUNT GOATS! (beach Lane 2010). This bright picture book is also a concept book. As the rhymes move us from mountain to city to sea side, we count goats. We count goats in airplanes, cars, and boats. We count goats in summer and winter. Readers will love counting goats. <473>
