cooking up some good books

I am thoroughly enjoying the new Amelia Bedelia books by Herman Parish, the nephew of Peggy Parish. In AMELIA BEDELIA'S FIRST APPLE PIE (illustrations by Lynne Avril), Amelia learns how to bake an apple pie. Of course, she also learns that Granny Smith is an apple and that a sprinkling of flour means on the cutting board and not on her granny. <296>

I'M A TRUCK DRIVER by Jonathan London with illustrations by David Parkins could be a worthy successor to the Trucktown series by Jon Scieszka for older readers. Readers will encounter a variety of different kinds of trucks and equipment accompanied by the jobs they perform. Be sure to look for the cat and dog on alternatuing pages, too. <297>
