look up in the sky, it's a bird, it's a plane, it's Barry Lyga?

ARCHVILLAIN by Barry Lyga (Scholastic, October 2010) is a perfect tween novel about a boy (Kyle) who develops super powers after being bathed in what the locals called a meteor shower. In actuality, though, it was not a meteor shower but a curtain of supercooled plasma that disguised the arrival of an alien boy. This boy, masquerading as an earthling, is the new student at Kyle's school. He soon becomes known as Mighty Mike, the superhero who rescues not only kittens from the trees, but other feats of derring-do. Meanwhile, Kyle attempts to unmask the pretender and set the record straight.

Comic, action-packed, and full of perfectly pitched tween thinking and emotions, this is a page-tuner sure to please reluctant readers. Add in a terrific cover, short chapters, and Kyle's "interesting" inventions and the sum total is a book that will win over loads of readers.
