A lovely bilingual counting book from Cinco Puntos Press: JUANITO COUNTS TO TEN by Lee Merill Byrd with fabulous, larger-than-life illustrations by Francisco Delgado recount the multitude of kisses (sizes and wetness) bestowed by a young boy. Of course, the best kisses are saved for abuelita.
50 "how" questions are answered in THE BOOK OF HOW from Kingfisher. For younger readers, this will be a perfect browsing book that might just encourage more reading and research and questioning. Its companion is THE BOOK OF WHY.
And, finally, CLEMENTE! by the incredible duo of Willie Perdomo and Bryan Collier. I grew up watching Clemente play for the Pirates and it was something to see, I'll tell ya. This picture book was a walk down memory lane for me. I hope it will find lots of readers for whom this will be a new story. Clemente was not only a talented athlete, he was an incredible humanitarian. The illustrations and text are "pitch" perfect if you will pardon the pun. (Holt, 2010)
