32nd International IBBY World Congress in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, 8-12 September 2010.
According to the Congress Organizing Committee, plans for the 32nd International IBBY World Congress are progressing very well. The congress program is built around the theme, The Strength of Minorities. The congress will be held at the beautiful Palacio de Congresos and over 500 participants are currently registered to attend. Plenary speakers include Lygia Bojunga (Brazil), Teresa Colomer (Catalonia, Spain), Emilia Ferreiro (Mexico), Somaly Mam (Cambodia), Manual Rivas (Galicia, Spain), and Mohammad Yousef (Afghanistan). Round Table themes include: Oral Tradition and Minorities without Written Language,
Illustration: a Medium for Representing Minorities, Children's and Young Adults' Literature and Linguistic Minority, and The Girls: Majority or Minority?Katherine Paterson and Elizabeth Poe will give a workshop on Developing Literary Understanding Across International Lines: A Reader's Theatre Performance in Five Acts. Approximately thirty interesting seminars will be presented.

In addition, special events will include the 2010 IBBY Honour List Presentation, the 2010 IBBY-Asahi Awards Presentation, the 2010 Hans Christian Andersen Awards Presentation, and the Farewell Dinner.

The Town Hall of Santiago de Compostela will sponsor different guided tours in the city during the Congress, including a tour of the historic and cultural monuments in Santiago. Another guided tour will show the literary Santiago and the "Santiago by Night" tour will visit the top of the historic Cathedral for a spectacular view of the city. Post-Congress-Tours will be available on the Congress website.
