heart warming

This video says it all. Look at the excitement produced by having a real "live" author come to visit a school. NCLB cannot begin to be a substitute for this. No test can measure this. As I sat in class this weekend, I came to tears a few times as teachers talked about being told NOT to read to kids because now it was time to prepare for the writing portion of the state test. And $$$ for author visits??? They are, sadly, not there either.

Instead of feeling depressed, though, I will just click on this and thank heavens for the schools that bring in authors to get kids excited about books and reading. Thanks for the tweet mention by Bookavore and thanks to Phil Bildner for sharing his experience.
