another take on Cinderella

Just when you think there cannot be one more variant, a new one pops up. This slim retelling of Cinderella does not depart too much from the more traditional fare. However, there is a nice infusion of humor and charming black and white illustrations that resemble old-fashioned paper cuttings and silhouettes. Cinderella writes letters to her dearly departed mother about her life, often asking advice or apologizing for not standing up for herself. She heads off to the ball and leaves behind a slipper. The prince finds his love and they marry. There is a nice PS to the story that has Cinderella helping the prince become a more diplomatic leader so that the entire kingdom can live happily ever after. I hope girls will find this little book an interesting variant to add to their knowledge of the Cinderella story.
