ANOTHER INSTALLMENT OF pICTURE bOOK mONDAY
When I saw the title OK, GO, all I could think of was the YouTube video sensation. This book, however, is a clever way of getting young readers to think "green." All manner of critter drives his or her or its own vehicle (go, go, go) until the double page spread is gray with smoke and someone says "uh-oh." How do we solve the smog problem? Turn the page and open it up (yup, a fold out) to find out how to be more eco-friendly. End papers also demonstrate the value of recycling. (Greenwillow, 2009)
Subtitled, HALVING YOUR CAKE AND EATING IT, TOO," this is the story of the lowly ant who watches as the animals before him cut the cake in half and then half again and so on until there is almost nothing left, certainly not enough to halve yet again. Great for studying fractions and other math concepts. (Walker, 2009)
