post election musings

As Yogi, the great philosopher says, "it ain't over til it's over." I am staying away from the media for now and preparing for the conference this weekend. I think I may grab a funny book to read to cheer me up in case the news is not good later.

I received a copy of JANET & ME by Stan Mack this week and am looking forward to having some time to read it. It is the story of the relationship between Stan Mack and Janet Bode. I am a huge fan of their work in YA nonfiction and mourn the loss of Bode a few years ago. She was a gutsy woman who wrote with passion and heart about topics teens cared about. If you do not know her work, let me suggest finding one of these books:

HARD TIME
VOICES OF RAPE
NEW KIDS IN TOWN
HEARTBREAK AND ROSES

I wrote about Janet and her books in Connie Zitlow's LOST MASTERPIECES OF YA LITERATURE (Scarecrow Press) if you want to know more.
