short and sweet
I am scanning some covers that are not showing up at the usual sources yet. One is for this book: THIS FAMILY IS DRIVING ME CRAZY!, a story collection (Penguin Putnam, fall 2009) edited by Jerry and Helen Weiss. Stories by Jack Gantos, John H. Ritter, Joan Bauer, and Gordon Korman are just a few highlights. What teen is not embarrassed by her or his family? For that matter, what adult does not have occasion to squirm from time to time? These are perfect for reading aloud or adding to that lesson on the structure of the short story. After all, if you begin with a story that touches the reader where he or she lives, chances are that reader will stay for the story and perhaps the lesson that follows.
