When Elena's sister Dora is hospitalized for depression, Elena is cast adrift. As she tells her therapist, a woman she calls Grandma Therapist, there is no Elena without Dora. Indeed, it seems as though Elena does not understand how to deal with all the changes in Dora, in the house, in her own life. Elena feels allegiance to her sister, but when she notices Dora sinking, she feels conflicted. Does she tell someone about the behaviors she sees that signal all may not be well with Dora? If she does that, is Elena betraying her sister and their relationship? There are no simple answers. The chapters are spare and short and the reader is quickly drawn into Elena's world. This might make an interesting companion to Sonya Sones' STOP PRETENDING.
