THE COW THAT WAS THE BEST MOO-THER (HarperCollins, 2009) features an unusual mother-child relationship.

Marjorie has loved her daughter Daisy since she hatched from an egg. So, when there is an announcement about a beauty contest for cow babies, Marjorie enters her darling child much to the delight and dismay of her fellow stall mates. There seem to be touches of Lauren Child with perhaps a soupcon of Betsy Lewin and Doreen Cronin thrown in.

PUT IT ON THE LIST (Dutton, 2009) could take place in my own home.

Each day the various members of the family run out of essentials: toilet paper, jelly to go with the peanut butter, etc. Making and using a shopping list might just be the solution. Not to get too far off track, but when I return from a trip I have to go out and shop as my beloved dear darling husband will only dash into a store to get something we are out of. He calls t hat shopping...

GOOD LUCK BEAR (Viking, 2009) is a simple and sweet story about an unexpected discovery.

In simple language we watch as Bear searches for the 4 leaf clover that will bring him luck only to be disappointed at all turns. He does, though, find something even better.
