tickled pink
HINKY PINK (Atheneum, 2008) is a fairy tale variant. Anabel is a young seamstress in Florence. She knows she cannot be a true princess ever since her name does not end in "la", her hair is not fair, and her feet not small nor shod in glass slippers. When the princess in the castle, she of the three names ending in "laL ruins her dress, Anabel is called to come to the castle. She must make a new dress for the princess to wear to the dance at the end of the week. However, try as she might, Anabel cannot get any sleep in her castle room. It seems a hinky pink has moved in and is searching for a perfect place to sleep. Until Anabel can satisfy the needs of the hinky pink, she will get no sleep and no work done on the dress for the princess. Young readers will appreciate this story and the lovely illustrations by Brian Floca that are at once intricate and detailed yet accessible for the young audience.
Hopefully, one last doctor's appointment today to remove a stent and then I can get back to preparing for the holidays. Cali took her final final today and is psyched for interviews this afternoon and tomorrow. We are hoping to have not only a college grad but also one who is gainfully employed by graduation as well. She took some time yesterday to get the tree put up for us. It is gorgeous. It is nice to have a decorator/designer in the family. Now the house looks festive and we are beginning to catch some of that elusive spirit.
