Doesn't the cover just grab you and pull you physically into the book? Sam Patch was a jumper and in Julie Cummins' story, readers can learn of his derring-do (or is that daring-do?) and his ultimate failure as well. The text is welcoming and friendly and stretches at times just like Sam's arms and legs. The illustrations are perfection as they seem to hurtle across the page just as Sam Patch hurtles off into space. Holiday House, 2009.
