National Book Award finalists announced

Congrats to our LJ friend Laurie Halse Anderson in being named as a finalist for the National Book Award for CHAINS. I am thrilled to see a few other books there, too, especially my pal Kathi Appelt's THE UNDERNEATH. Ditto E. Lockhart's THE DISREPUTABLE HISTORY OF FRANKIE LANDAU BANKS. For once, I have read a few of the books that are on the list.

YOUNG PEOPLE'S LITERATURE

Laurie Halse Anderson, Chains (Simon & Schuster)
Kathi Appelt, The Underneath (Atheneum)
Judy Blundell, What I Saw and How I Lied (Scholastic)
E. Lockhart, The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks (Hyperion)
Tim Tharp, The Spectacular Now (Alfred A. Knopf)

Young People's Literature Judges: Daniel Handler (chair), Holly Black, Angela Johnson, Carolyn Mackler, Cynthia Voigt.
