movies and musicals

How could you not pick this one up? This is one of the new books based on the animated movie of THE TALE OF DESPEREAUX (Candlewick Press, 2008). Each of the slim books tells a different part of the story we have come to know and love from Kate DiCamillo. The movie will debut in December. I will be in line. In the meantime, here is a way to introduce young readers to this heroic mouse who captured our hearts and a Newbery Medal.

And while we are talking about productions, here is the latest BabyMouse adventure:

I love BabyMouse and have made no secret of that fact. But, honestly, I think this one might become my new favorite. Tributes to several Broadway shows inclduing Phantom, Grease, Cats, Showboat, and others all featuring our own BabyMouse. The lyrics from Grease include this gem:

"Stupid fractions
I hate them so much
Stupid fractions
I'd rather eat lunch
I had a quiz hard as can be
Wait til you get to Ge-om-e-try"

Math shows up in lyrics from Annie as well. So much fun to read and to sing along with...
