eek! is it morning already?

Last night was the first ever Odyssey celebration. We had an SRO audience that included Newbery winning authors, educators, librarians, and audio publishers and narrators. Stephanie Zvirin began by recalling memorable moments from other Booklist forum presentations (Booklist sponsors the award with ALSC and YALSA). Sue Ellen Beauregard introduced Bruce Coville who delighted us all with his "history" of recorded books. Mary Burkey, the chair of the 2008 Odyssey (Best. Committee. Ever.), presented the winners. Arnie Cardillo from Live Oak gave a heartfelt and incredibly informative speech about JAZZ and audio. Next, we heard from Simon Vance, narrator extraordinaire and winner of the first Booklist VOICE OF CHOICE. Jim Dale joined us via the miracles of technology. There were SQUEES a plenty when he thanked the committee. Finally, we adjourned to the Hilton lobby bar to continue the celebration. Weary folks bid adieu and headed "home."

Now it is off to the Convention Center for a YALSA Committee meeting and some time at the exhibits. Tune in later.
