BEDTIME FOR BEAR (Harper 2011) by Brett Helquist is a funny and frolicking romp as Bear puts off hibernation for a day to play in the snow with some antic raccoons. The details of the illustrations elevate the book beyond it simple story. <96>

I loved CAT SECRETS by Jef Czekaj ((Balzer and Bray 2011). A group of erstwhile cats have gathered to share with the reader cat secrets. However, before they proceed, they want to be certain all the readers are cats. Yes, there are some tests that have to be passed before the secrets can be relayed. <97>

Margie Palatini scores again with her humorous variation of classic fairy tales in GOLDILOCKS AND THE THREE HARES (Katherine Tegen Books 2011). Goldi falls down a flight of steps and ends up with a swollen foot trapping her in the rabbit's warren. They try everything to rid themselves of the overly fussy Goldi to no avail. They do finally solve the immediate problem only to discover the next one waiting literally on their doorstep. <98>
