About the only negative thing I can think of to say about this book is that I wish it were available NOW instead of in May. However, it will be there for teachers as they return for the 2008-2009 school year. Here is a collection of essays about the importance of voting. Contributors range from the familiar to us old-timers (Maya Angelou, Alice Walker, the late Molly Ivins) as well as some new voices (Sarah Varon, author of ROBOT DREAMS and Sean Kingston, singer of "Beautiful Girls"). Funny, intense, irreverent, and moving at turns, there are essays in here that should touch the lives and the minds of all our teens who will be able to cast votes for the first time. Appendices give readers opportunities to SPEAK CONNECT ACT VOTE (the subtitle for the book). I think this is a must have especially for history classes who will surely be following the election as November draws nearer.
