twisting myths

It is wonderful to be home for a few days even though our lit conference looms this weekend. We had a lovely scare yesterday when the hotel near campus informed us they had released the rooms we reserved for our speakers. However, all is now well. Rooms have been found elsewhere and we will move forward with the other last minute items.

Took some time this morning to read MEDUSA JONES while downloading some new audiobooks to the iPod. This clever chapter book, ideal for young readers venturing out from picture books and series books like Magic Treehouse, offers its own take on the tale of Medusa whose childhood friends include Chiron the centuar and Mino the Minotaur. These three are bullied by the Champions: Theseus, Perseus, and Cassandra. If course, Medusa could easily handle this irritation but she has promised not to turn folks to stone. So, how does a creature go about defending herself? Short chapters, funny situations, and a very real topic make this a treasure for younger kids who need good books, too.

Hope you all like the new look to the blog. It just felt like the right time to make some changes.
