Texas author Jennifer Ziegler offers teens a nice turn with her book, ALPHA DOG. Katie is heading to Austin for the summer to take some special classes. Right before she leaves, just in time for her 17th birthday, her boyfriend dumps her and her gal pals abandon her. Maybe some time away from all the betrayal will be just what she needs.

Katie ends up adopting a mutt named Seamus from the local animal shelter in Austin. Seamus has a mind of his own. Maybe Katie should take a page from his book and learn how to stand up to her ex, her new roommate, and her mother, too? ALPHA DOG is part coming of age, part romance, part dog story but mostly just an enjoyable read for a Saturday afternoon.
