Today began early with coffee on the balcony overlooking Frenchmen's Cove. Once we felt up to it, we strolled down to the pool for some relaxed swimming and sunning then on to the beach for some rock hunting and a few moments in the beautiful clear water. A bath, more reading, a trip to the "gourmet" grocery store, more reading, dinner prepared in the condo, and voila! Three books plus part of an audio completed today. This is exactly the vacation I wanted.
The latest book is a compendium of facts to amaze and amuse middle grade readers who love Guinness and other fact filled tomes. Here is EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE WORLD. One of my favorite scribblings in the margins of this paperback is: WHAT IS BROWN AND SOUNDS LIKE A BE? ANSWER: DUNG. Does this sound like manna from heaven for reluctant kids in 4th and 5th grade, possibly? Here are some other fun facts: the first wedding in a public toilet took place in 1996 in Taiwan; Amazon means without breast and refers to the Amazon women who cut off their right breast in order to better shoot bows and arrows.
Nice and fun reading for this beach bum.
