When I read this book in ARC a while ago, I knew it had to become an audiobook. There is so much in it that cries out for a great audio adaptation. And that it received from Brilliance Audio (2009). DAYS OF LITTLE TEXAS sounds just as it did in my head as I was reading it for the first time. The cadence of the evangelical preacher, Ronald Earl, aka Little Texas. The various accents of the South (the story moves from Georgia to Texas to other locales). The pacing that is slow as the story unfolds and then perceptibly quickens as it builds to the climax. Wow, a nice little roller coaster of an audiobook.

Fabulous. I was concerned since the book is quite visual. However, the narrator had the rhythm and pitch and pacing down to perfection. I never missed seeing the illustrations as I listened. PLUS, there is an additional CD with all of the artwork. Two bonuses to the audio: a commentary by Kadir Nelson followed by a brief interview with him as well.

Happy to be back from NYC and where the afternoons do warm up nicely. Spent the morning with the lovely secondary librarians of Conrie ISD. We talked books, of course. I love being surrounded by folks who love to read.......
