The stack of books for the new ALAN Award keep poring in. I had to move them to the floor as Scout was waking the stack as a personal invitation to jump and scatter them at every opportunity. Read this one from Jeanne McDermott from FSG (May 2009).




This one will be a big hit here in Texas (no, duh!). Olivia, Fatima, and Vanna are all friends and fellow band members in a high school in San Antonio. Each of them has the usual teen problems: pesky sibs, annoying parents, changes in life (i.e., divorce, death of a family member) and also march in the school's band. Though their backgrounds are different, they share a deep friendship that offers support to each of them when they need it the most. and now we need to get out of the house for a while so the cleaning crew can come in. Time for a trip to Target and then back to reading.
